I have a Master's degree from Antioch University, where I was trained in existential-humanistic psychology. I see therapy as a form of mindfulness practice in which both therapist and client attend to what they experience in the present moment as a way to uncover the places where healing needs to occur. I have a gentle approach that recognizes each person's unique strengths and gifts in addition to the issues that brought them to therapy. I work with people dealing with life changes, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, low self-esteem, feelings of meaninglessness and spiritual issues.
I practice vipassana meditation as a way to deepen my ability to pay attention as I sit with clients. As I continue in this practice, I learn more and more about the ways we humans create suffering by grasping at pleasure and rejecting pain. I incorporate mindfulness practices into the work I do as a therapist; I believe that meditation and psychotherapy complement each other nicely.
My office is conveniently located in downtown Seattle, and I work exclusively with individual adults. For more information about me and the therapy I offer, please visit my website at www.anneihnen.net.
