The exploration of our suffering becomes a noble, worthy cause when we realize the great impact this self-exploration can have on the world around us. Suffering caused by our habitual, conditioned patterns can be released when we more clearly understand.
My view of Contemplative Psychotherapy is to assist myself and others to have a more direct experience with each present moment and to let go of self-inflicted suffering. The concepts of Deep Listening, Deep Curiosity, and Deep Connection are integrated with a grounded theoretical understanding of psychodynamic models.
Since 2004, I have worked on the Adult Substance Abuse Team at Cornerstone Counseling Center. My current interest has been the practice of Mindfulness to treat addiction, depression & anxiety. I teach a Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention course & co-facilitate Dialectial Behavior Therapy group. Member of The Buddhist Recovery Network Advisory Council & Faculty/Field Supervisor at University of Utah Graduate School of Social Work.
My personal meditation practice is informed by Tibetan Buddhism, with my most influential readings by Pema Chodron and Jack Kornfield. I have attended retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Center & with a local sangha.
