My professional background is a marriage of Eastern and Western principles of healing. I have been a meditation practioner for 16 years, which includes five years in residence at a Zen Buddhist Monastery where I practiced zazen, martial arts and tai chi chuan. I furthered my professional training in meditation and clinical psychology at The Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where I achieved my Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy.
My therapeutic approach is process oriented, exploring habitual negative patterns or the recapitulation of wounding events, through examining the dynamics of relationships, addictive mood states, thought processes, body symptoms, as well as the underlying belief system supporting such patterns. By cultivating an ability to observe ourselves in our patterns with a sense of Maitri or friendliness, without taking flight on every single thought that enters our mind, or every single impulse our body experiences, we create an opportunity to contact our intrinsic health or "brilliant sanity".
I use focusing exercises, dream work and guided imagery to help individuals develop a relationship to their own internal terrain. This process helps them reconnect with their wisdom and intuition, which allows the healing and growth to continue beyond the therapeutic relationship.
