It is my position that individuals are intrinsically healthy, but that their awareness of this is obscured, and that cultivating loving-kindness and compassion towards oneself helps uncover what is already there.
If you are struggling with symptomatic anxiety, depression, an eating disorder or any other addiction, conflict with a partner including struggles with intimacy this difficulty can appear like the "problem" but in reality it is simply the defense to the core pain of alienation. What might help reveal the truth is sitting together without agenda while we encounter, welcome, explore, and describe all opposites of sensation, feeling, thought, emotion, belief, memory, imagery--all aspects of the Ego-I--which keep suffering in place. Aspects of this dialogue often intersect with more experiential breath work so that a deepening into an embodied heart's knowing can emerge. The breath is a centering tool and a focus to staying in the present moment. This translates into feeling embodied but not self-conscious mindfully engaged with life--feeling relaxed and offering full concentration to what's emerging.
I am a graduate of Columbia University School of Social Work and have done post-graduate training with John Welwood and Jon Kabat-Zinn, as well as meditation practice with Gehlek Rinpoche.
For the last fourteen years, I have been a psychotherapist in private practice in Westchester County, Katonah, New York (one hour north of Manhattan). I offer a sliding scale fee. As an additional support, I facilitate loving-kindness meditation practice groups, discussion and reading groups
I welcome contact with individuals who have interest, questions or comments regarding my treatment approach. Please feel free to call me at: (914) 772-8750 or e-mail me at: Ljame54 @gmail.com.
