Elaine Gifford, M.A., M.S.W.

GiffordI am a licensed clinical social worker, in private practice in the Boston area for 22 years. I consult to individuals, couples and families who are working with various issues including grief, anxiety, life changes, relationship difficulties. My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic and experiential, informed by my experience as a student of Buddhist teachings and a practitioner in the Zen and Vipassana traditions during the past 15 years.

My "formal" clinical training includes an M.A. in Expressive Therapies (Lesley College1983) and an M.S.W. (Simmons 1986) I have also had extensive training in psychodrama and Ericksonian hypnosis. Also, I have completed the training program in Stress Reduction at the Center for Mindfulness at U Mass Medical School.

Meditation practice continues to increase my capacity to sit with myself, to be present with whatever is occurring, and to be aware of my own conditioned reactions. This learning enhances my ability to sit with clients and to listen deeply. I view my role as that of a consultant who can offer clients guidance in accessing their own creativity, wisdom and innate goodness as sources of healing. I tailor my approach to the needs of the individual at any given time.
