The three principles of my contemplative psychotherapy practice are: attention, curiosity and kindness. The flow of therapy often goes something like this:
ROUSING COURAGE, PLACING ATTENTION: So often we fear that we are hopeless, damaged or unworkable. The first step is to speak the fear and ask what is true.
ROUSING CURIOSITY, NAMING CLEARLY: We work with the premise, "what if there is intelligence in the path chosen", "what if there is a larger context that has not yet been considered."
DEVELOPING TRUST, WEAVING THE TAPESTRY OF ONE'S LIFE: The relief of reestablishing possibility and path. Aah... room to move.
COMING HOME: Resting. And making choices about how to proceed.
I am an experienced psychotherapist who is always learning, focusing my work on weaving dreams and vision with the pragmatics of everyday life. I graduated from Naropa University in 1982, have been licensed as a Professional Counselor since 1992, and was an adjunct faculty member at Naropa for many years. Currently I meet with Naropa graduate students for meditation instruction. I enjoy collaborating with clients in all the many facets of life transitions.
I have extensive experience working with people with brain injuries, mood disorders, chronic depression. I am a member of the American Psychotherapy Association.
I accept private pay and I am also a United Behavioral Health provider, which includes some student policies.
